Based in Massachusetts​,​ Ryan McConnell ties bass bugs to feed the masses (and his compulsive tendencies). With a background in art​,​ the discipline and attention to detail required to tie hair bugs is the perfect challenge. Taking inspiration from legendary deer hair tyers like Pat Cohen​,​ Tim England​,​ Dave Whitlock​,​ Jimmy Nix​,​ and countless others​,​ Ryan has put his own spin on the timeless techniques and patterns of deer hair flies. Though most bugs he produces are functional and durable to perform on any water inhabited by predatory fish​,​ Ryan creates other pieces that may be categorized as “art flies”. Combining hand painted acrylic pieces with deer hair bugs​,​ these “flies” are a unique and blasphemous addition to the world of bass bugs.
